Overview

Nestled in the charming 14th arrondissement of Paris, at 89 Rue Daguerre, Restaurant La Cantine du Troquet Daguerre offers an authentic French dining experience that strikes a perfect balance between tradition and approachability. This bistro-style restaurant, known for its warm atmosphere and attentive service, is a welcoming retreat for both locals and visitors seeking genuine flavors away from tourist-heavy spots.

The menu is a celebration of classic French cuisine with a fresh, seafood-forward twist. Signature dishes such as Couteaux à la Plancha (razor clams grilled to perfection) and delicate ceviche offer a refreshing start, while hearty options like Onglets de Boeuf (hanger steak) and Côté de Veau showcase the rich, buttery depth typical of French cooking, but with a refined, measured hand that even non-butter fans can appreciate. The inclusion of more rustic elements like Parmentier de Boudin Noir (black pudding mashed potatoes) and Oreilles de Cochon Grillées (grilled pig’s ears) reveals the kitchen’s dedication to honest, unpretentious flavors.

What sets this restaurant apart is its ability to blend familiarity with subtle innovation. Dishes are crafted with care using quality ingredients, resulting in vibrant flavors and satisfying textures. The purée—smooth and buttery—is consistently praised, pairing wonderfully with both fish and meat. Seafood enthusiasts will delight in the fresh cod and tuna options, and for dessert, the light yet flavorful Crumble de Fraises offers a perfect close to the meal. The presence of items like L'œuf Mayo and Oeuf Mollet Champignons Poêlés emphasizes a respect for French culinary staples served with finesse.

The space itself is casual and inviting, fostering a relaxed ambiance where conversation flows easily and the focus remains on the meal. Service is both professional and warmly personable—an aspect repeatedly highlighted by patrons who appreciate the staff’s patience and genuine hospitality, even when language barriers arise.

Restaurant La Cantine du Troquet Daguerre is a destination for those who appreciate unhurried meals that honor French cooking heritage without pretense. It is ideal for locals and travelers alike who crave authentic bistro fare, whether enjoying a leisurely dinner with family or a casual catch-up with friends. The restaurant’s location within a lively Paris neighborhood adds to its charm, making it a must-visit for those looking to experience French culinary culture at its heartfelt best.

The food was so enjoyable. Usually not a huge French cuisine fan because of its butter based meal. However the recommendations I had were great - seafood starter was great, beef is just as good as the ones I have in Australia. Then finally finished off with a sorbet. Walked out of the restaurant a very happy man! Would highly recommend

Great meal. I don’t speak much French, nevertheless the owner and his staff were very welcoming and polite. They were patient in taking our order and the service was very attentive. The food was prepared with great care and simply delicious; the presentation, delightful. I had the fish and steak in red wine sauce and the clams and a terrine for starts. All were very tasty. It’s a great place to enjoy a bite of local French food away from restaurants that are altogether too touristy or fussy. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual and they’re open moderately late.

We had a wonderful dinner at this place, the staff was very nice and friendly, the place had a "family-dinner" vibe, the food and wine tasted fabulous. The menu was in French so be prepared with Google translate if you don't speak the language.

The best meal we had in Paris, incredibly welcoming and friendly. I’d recommend speaking at least a little French, but I’m by no means fluent.

Lovely little restaurant. Doesn't take reservations so just turn up and see. Gets busy later in the evening. Wine by the glass, carafe, bottle or magnum! Portions are on the smaller side but very tasty. Fresh, vibrant food, attentive multilingual service. Good value for quality of food. Recommended to visit.
